The Delhi government Monday decided to grant the Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology the status of a university, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said here.
Delhi has one other technical university, Delhi Technological University.
"The cabinet has given in principle approval for upgradation of the institute into a state university. This will improve the standard of education of students there," Dikshit told reporters here.
The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Dikshit.
A draft bill and operational details would be finalised in the same context.
The institute has six under-graduate programmes in emerging technologies and three post-graduate programmes.
The institute is in Dwarka in southwest Delhi.
