The Delhi Metro has constructed an additional foot-overbridge (FOB) across the busy Ring Road at South Extension to help the large numbers of shoppers as well as pedestrians who throng the popular south Delhi market.
The new bridge will connect South Extension Part I and II, providing easy movement to those visiting the numerous shops on either side of the arterial road, said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a statement.
As part of its third phase of expansion, the DMRC is building an underground Metro station in South Extension slated to be ready by 2016. As a result, it had to shut down the existing subway.
A foot-overbridge was set up in place of the subway, but the DMRC felt the need to build another.
"It was noticed that the pedestrians had to walk a long distance, which was inconvenient especially for women. Therefore, a decision was taken to provide an additional FOB for the convenience of the commuters," the DMRC said in a statement.
