Delhi Environment Minister Asim Ahmed Khan on Friday stressed the need for proper and effective management of solid waste which is consistently rising in the national capital due to increasing population.

Khan also urged immediate adoption of best international practices to manage solid waste which would lead to a better environment in the city and reduce the pressure for requirement of additional land for waste disposal.

The minister was inspecting the Waste-to-Energy Plant at Ghazipur where he was informed that 12 MW electricity shall be generated with the processing of 1,300 tonnes of solid waste every day, an official said.

This Waste-to-Energy plant is being installed by East Delhi Waste Processing Company Ltd. on a public-private partnership model with East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
