In a special drive, Delhi Police prosecuted more than 800 drivers for violating traffic rules, police officials said Sunday.
In a drive that started at 7.00 p.m. Saturday evening and continued till 1.00 a.m. Sunday, a total of 247 drunk drivers were prosecuted and as many as 44 vehicle owners were taken to task for allowing drunk drivers to be at the wheels of their vehicles.
Overall, 825 traffic rule violators were challaned. These include 259 for dangerous driving, 73 for red light jumping, 47 for permit violation and 50 for no-entry violation.
According to Delhi Police, till Aug 15, a total of 20,400 violators have been prosecuted for drunken driving, of whom 6,776 were arrested while 10,929 vehicles were impounded.
