A Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver on a secluded area on the banks of the Yamuna river, police said on Wednesday.
Police said the incident took place in Jaitpur area of south Delhi on Tuesday night, and the officer was identified as Devender, 55 posted in Jaitpur police station. They said they came to know about it were informed by some local residents.
"As per Devender's family members, he was going through depression due to some family problems. He was issued his service pistol for emergency duty and then went to a isolated place at the bank of Yamuna near Kalindi Kunj and shot himself," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Romil Baaniya.
"Last month, Devender's brother-in-law died due to which his wife was going through a rough phase. This affected Devender and he too was under depression. As per his colleagues, he got isolated from few days and was not interacting with many people.
"His family members met senior officers at Delhi Police Headquarters and have submitted a representation along with the copy of a note left behind by him before committing suicide. The same has been marked to Additional Deputy Commissioner Rank officer for enquiry," he added.
"They also requested for recruitment of his son with Delhi Police on compassionate grounds which is being looked into and they have been asked to apply formally for the same," said Baaniya.
