A Delhi Police Assistant Commissioner of Police committed suicide by shooting himself with his service revolver at his residence here.

His wife was in critical condition after she also reportedly jumped from the balcony of their apartment, police said on Tuesday.

The body of Amit Singh, who was posted with Special Cell of Delhi Police, was recovered from his house in Sector 100 late Monday.

Police said that Amit's wife too jumped from the sixth floor of their building.

"She has been admitted in a private hospital in a critical condition," a police official said.

Singh, a Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service cadre subordinate police service officer of 2010 batch, was also assaulted in a case of road rage in 2014 in Delhi.

Singh was survived by his wife and a two-year-old child.

A team of Delhi Police also reached the spot and started its separate probe to find out the reason behind the extreme steps taken by Singh and his wife.
