All five railway police stations in the national capital have been facilitated with STD connections for contacting their counterparts other states, Delhi Police said Tuesday.

This will help to enhance the power of the Zero FIR (first information report).

According to Joint Commissioner of Police M.K. Meena: "To avail the service, the station house officer would call the police officers of the area concerned outside the state whenever a victim approaches them."

"It will enhance the functioning of the Zero FIR and the police officers of the area concerned will get to know about that complaint, so he can begin the probe soon," Meena told IANS.

Zero FIR can be registered in any police station, irrespective of the place of incident or jurisdiction and the same is later transferred to the appropriate police station. The victim is then sent along with a policeman and the Zero FIR to the police station concerned.

Victims of crimes at railway stations or inside trains became puzzled most of the time in getting the FIR lodged at the appropriate police station.

Police said this year, the Delhi railway police have registered more than 100 Zero FIRs.

The five railway police stations are New Delhi, Old Delhi, Anand Vihar, Sarai Rohilla and Hazrat Nizamuddin.
