With a view to ensuring development in both urban and rural villages, the Delhi government has decided to replace the Rural Development Board with a new body, namely the Village Development Board, Delhi's Development Minister Gopal Rai said on Wednesday.

"Cabinet note of Village Development Board is being prepared and we will constitute it by next month. This new board will conduct all the development works of both rural and urban area villages," Rai said.

He said that the move was aimed at developing the villages of urban areas, since according to norms, the Rural Development Board did not have the mandate to conduct civic works in urban villages.

"We have set aside around Rs 300 crore for the development of rural villages and Rs 300 crore for urban villages," Rai added.
