Hundreds of students, teachers and workers of Delhi University held a candle light march Saturday evening to demand justice for a varsity employee who attempted self-immolation last week after the police failed to file an FIR against a college principal who she accused of sexual molestation.
The protest was held at the Arts Faculty in North Campus of Delhi university to demand justice for Pavitra Bhardwaj, an employee of B.R. Ambedkar College, who attempted self- immolation on Sep 30 outside the Delhi secretariat. She is admitted to the LNJP hospital with 90 percent burn injuries.
"She had filed complaint of sexual harassment against college principal G.K. Arora, but instead of taking action against the principal she was terminated from her service," said Delhi University Teachers Association president Nandita Narain, who was part of the candle light vigil.
The protesters, who included the karamcharis of Delhi University and College Karamchari Union (DUCKU), demanded the immediate arrest of the principal and that he be sacked immediately.
