Democrats, Republicans thank Obama in last moments of presidency

With Barack Obama's presidency in its final minutes, numerous House and Senate Democrats, along with Senator Bernie Sanders, and Senate Republicans took to social media to thank the 44th President of the US.

Senator Benjamin Louis Cardin from the Democratic Party tweeted: "Thank you President Barack Obama for all you have done for our nation and the dignity that you and your family have brought to the White House."

Democrat Lacy Clay said: "Thanks Mr. President #44always."

Gerry Connolly, also a Democrat, said: "Last Hail to the Chief for Obama makes me appreciate the virtues of grace and dignity amid all turmoil. America owes him a debt of gratitude."

 

Republican Jim Mc Govern also joined Twitteratis to thank Obama.

Republican Don Beyer tweeted: "It's been such a privilege to serve with you. For hope. For change. For everything you accomplished. Thanks Obama."

Marco Rubio, Senator for Florida, Republican party, said: "We also thank Barack Obama, Michelle Obama for your service to our country. May God bless you as you begin this new phase in your lives."

Jose E. Serrano, a Democrat from New York, also thanked the outgoing President "for your friendship and leadership"
