Dengue cases cross 2,000-mark in Bengal

Dengue cases in West Bengal have crossed the 2,000-mark this year while the official death count so far is at 14, a Health Department official said here on Thursday.

Two more persons are suspected to have died of the mosquito-borne disease.

While 132 fresh dengue cases were detected in the state between Tuesday and Wednesday, 286 more persons were diagnosed with the disease till Thursday.

"The total number of dengue cases till January stands at 2,170. The number of fresh cases detected between Wednesday evening and Thursday is 286," state Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy told IANS.

"The confirmed deaths due to the disease total 14. However, we have received reports of two more persons dying of dengue. But these are not confirmed," he said.

 

"In one case, we don't know where the person hails from. In none of the cases do we have the death certificate so far, the official said.
