Dengue has claimed three lives in Assam's main city Guwahati in the last eight days, officials said, adding many patients were warded in hospitals.

While one man, Raju Dewan, died Thursday in a city hospital, his wife Loni Dewan breathed her last in the same hospital Tuesday. Another person, Kandarpa Deka, died due to dengue Aug 21.

Ramen Kalita, superintendent of the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, said there were nine suspected dengue patients in the hospital.

Aedes mosquitoes, which cause dengue, are endemic to the region.
