Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Thursday inspected the renovation work in Delhi's central commercial hub Connaught Place and stressed the need for its early completion, saying "further delays cannot be tolerated".
"The government has always been very keen to restore the glory of Connaught Place. Further delays cannot be tolerated," Dikshit said.
She also said the sheen of the re-developed Connaught Place depends on the finishing works and instructed the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to appropriately design roadside kiosks and launch a special campaign to remove posters.
The project included construction of eight new subways in the outer circle of Connaught Place, a service corridor in the middle circle, facade restoration and other improvements of the buildings.
A total of Rs.450 crore ($100 million) were sanctioned for the renovation project. The civic agency started the work in 2009 in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games held Oct 3-14, 2010.
