People from different walks of life came together in the capital to deliberate on social issues by using art as a medium, the organisers said Saturday.

Apne Aap, a charitable trust that works toward the empowerment of girls and women, organised its first series of 'Terrace Talks' in collaboration with Rang, a Delhi-based community of young artists, at the India International Centre Friday.

Photojournalist, artist and activist Ram Rahman presided over the session, focused on history and culture. "A picture doesn't always have to be hugely dramatic. An ordinary picture can be filled with dramatic elements," he said.

According to Abhilasha Kumari, director of Apne Aap, photography has had a social connect right through history and has played a big role in changing laws.

"Initiatives like this will form a community where people can freely exchange their ideas. In the company of experienced moderators one gets thoughtful perspectives," she said.

The organisers plan to make Terrace Talks a monthly event.
