Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Thursday dubbed as "idiotic" a Congress leader's comments on the distribution of over 10,000 sarees by him in Mandrem assembly segment on November 1.
"Yes, I distributed the sarees. But I did not do it under the cover of darkness. I wrote my name (on the packets). It says it is being distributed on 'bhai dooj'. My photo is on the packets," Parsekar said.
On Wednesday, state Congress chief spokesperson Ramakant Khalap accused Parsekar of trying to lure voters in his constituency a few months ahead of the Goa assembly elections.
"At least 50 per cent voters in his constituency are women... he is trying to woo them with sarees," Khalap said.
Parsekar said while he once had regard for Khalap, a former Deputy Chief Minister, the Congress politician's comments were "idiotic".
"What kind of a probe does he want. As the Chief Minister, I don't even want to respond to these idiotic comments..." Parsekar said.
