Unidentified armed men, presumably Taliban insurgents, gunned down a district governor in Afghanistan's Helmand province on Monday, an official said.
"Manan Khan, the governor of Nawa district in Helmand province was on way to the neighbouring Kandahar province today (Monday) when unknown armed men, presumably Taliban rebels, intercepted his vehicle and shot him dead," Xinhua news agency quoted Shafiq Safi as telling reporters in provincial capital Lashkar Gah, 555 km south of Kabul.
No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the killing.
