Djokovic maintains top spot, Bopanna drops in doubles rankings

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic held on to his place as No.1 in the latest rankings released on Monday, increasing his lead after claiming the Madrid Open title.

Djokovic defeated Scot Andy Murray on Sunday in the final to add a further 1,000 points to be clear at the top, with over 9,000 points ahead of second-placed Swiss Roger Federer, reports Efe.

Murray dropped to third place in the rankings after losing the Madrid final.

In the men's doubles rankings, India's Rohan Bopanna dropped two places to the 13th spot after losing the Madrid Opern final with his partner Florin Mergea on Sunday.

 

Veteran Leander Paes jumped three spots to 54th in the rankings.

The current rankings and point scores are as follows:

1. Novak Djokovic (Serbia) 16.550 points

2. Roger Federer (Switzerland) 7.525

3. Andy Murray (Scotland) 7.525

4. Stan Wawrinka (Switzerland) 6.380

5. Rafael Nadal (Spain) 5.675

6. Kei Nishikori (Japan) 4.290

7. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (France) 3.400

8. Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic) 2.940

9. David Ferrer (Spain) 2.920

10. Milos Raonic (Canada) 2.740.
