AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Sunday said it was the BJP that supported 'kar seva' in Ayodhya of Uttar Pradesh.

She said it was the DMK that aligned with the BJP and became part of the central government between 1999 and 2003.

Addressing an election rally here, about 160 km from the state capital Chennai, Jayalalithaa said DMK president M. Karunanidhi, eyeing the minorities' votes, has laid a false charge that she sent 'kar sevaks' to Ayodhya years ago.

Stressing that there is no iota of truth in Karunanidhi's charge, Jayalalithaa countered it was the BJP that supported 'kar seva' and sent people to Ayodhya.

If Karunanidhi was opposed to 'kar seva' then why did he align with the saffron party and be part of the BJP-led union government between 1999 and 2003, she posed.

She also came down heavily on the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre for its failure on economic, defence and foreign relation fronts.

Charging the UPA government's step-motherly attitude towards Tamil Nadu, Jayalalithaa also said the DMK that was part of the central government, has to share the blame for the price rise across the sectors.

She urged the people to vote for AIADMK candidates in the general elections so that the party could determine the central government's policies.

The chief minister said only then would the interests of Tamils be protected and their demands secured.
