The Goa Congress's Women's wing on Thursday announced its support to the daughter-in-law of state BJP Vice President Anil Hoble, after the latter was booked for dowry harassment and assault on Wednesday.
Goa Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho told reporters on Thursday that the party's representatives would meet the victim and assured full support to her in the legal battle.
"She is a woman and is sad that a person with political clout has been harassing her and her family for dowry. We will meet the victim soon and support her in her struggle because it is a crime against a woman," Coutinho said.
On Wednesday, the Goa Police Women's Cell booked Hoble, his wife and son for dowry-related harassment and assaulting his daughter-in-law.
The three have been booked under sections 498 (a), 323 (causing hurt), 506 (ii) (criminal intention) and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961.
Hoble has, however, said that the complaint was baseless and politically motivated.

"It was a minor domestic dispute. But the accusation of dowry is baseless. This is a politically motivated complaint to defame me and my family," Hoble maintained.
