Over a dozen people were injured when two groups of people from different communities clashed, leading to communal tension in Rajasthan's Tonk town Friday, police said.

The district administration clamped prohibitory orders banning gathering of five or more people.

According to police, two groups of youths had a fight over petty issue in Tonk's Chhavani area, some 150 km from Jaipur, on Thursday night.

"A police team intervened following which the issue was resolved. However after Ramadan prayers today (Friday) afternoon, the people from both the communities indulged in stone pelting," said a police officer.

Police used to tear gas disperse the crowd, he added.

"Over two dozen people have been rounded up. The stone pelting left about 12 people injured. They are undergoing treatment. The district collector has slapped section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) banning gathering of people," said the officer.

Heavy police force has been deployed in the town to maintain law and order, the officer added.
