The government has cancelled the extension of deputation period given earlier to Delhi University Registrar Alka Sharma.
A department of personnel and training (DoPT) document, dated Aug 20, said: "The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the proposal for cancelling the extended period of deputation and premature repatriation of Alka Sharma."
Sharma, a 1988 batch Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS), had been sent on deputation to DU as finance officer. Her term was supposed to end January 2014, but as per a Right to Information (RTI) query, it was found that her deputation was extended from Jan 2, 2014 to July 2015.
The human resource development ministry had written to the DoPT July 8, seeking that the government revert Sharma to her cadre.
DU teachers and students had expressed strong discontentment on Sharma's conduct and had appealed to the government for her removal.
"It is a big relief for the university community. Instead of upholding act, statues and ordinances, Alka Sharma was instrumental in misgovernance," DU professor Abha Dev told IANS.
