A 22-year-old correspondence student from Delhi University (DU) was arrested along with his friend in connection with the murder of two gangsters here earlier this week, police said on Sunday.
Siva Suri, a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) student, who has been previously involved in three criminal cases, was arrested on Saturday along with Avdesh Yadav, 27, also a criminal involved in three cases, from Rohini in north Delhi on a tip-off.
Two illegal firearms and seven live cartridges were also recovered from their possession, police said.
The accused were held on charges of killing Bijender and Ghanshyam, both gangsters, who were involved in more than 10 criminal cases, on Wednesday in south Delhi's Bindapur area.
"The interrogation of Suri and Yadav revealed that both the deceased were also desperate criminals of Bindapur area. Bijender was previously involved in 12 criminal cases while Ghanshyam had committed 16 criminal cases," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Rajiv Ranjan.
The official said the deceased Bijender had motivated Suri to commit robberies in Delhi. "Bijender had also been co-accused with Suri in two cases in 2012 in Delhi," he said.

As Bijender and his associate Ghanshyam later started extorting Suri to pay them money on regular basis, he along with his associates Pradeep Rana, Nitin Narula and Avdesh planned to eliminate them.
"Suri invited Bijender and Ghanshyam at his house for a party and also for sorting out the matter amicably. However, a heated argument ensued between Suri and Bijender. And, as per plan, they were shot dead by Suri and his associates," said the official.
