Aiming to optimise infrastructure created in special economic zones (SEZ), the government has allowed dual use of their non-processing area by SEZ entities as well as domestic tariff area (DTA) entities, an official annoucement said.
"The department of commerce has allowed dual use of non-processing area of SEZs by SEZ entities as well as DTA entities," the commerce ministry said in a statement here Friday.
Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had informed parliament last month that the government was engaged in inter-ministerial consultations on the matter.
SEZs contribute a significant quarter to the country's total exports. Exports from these zones increased from Rs.22,840 crore in 2005-06 to Rs.494,000 crore in 2013-14.
