The Delhi Union of Journalists (DUJ) Monday sought insurance cover for all journalists in view of the increasing number of attacks on them.

Condemning the assaults by supporters of spiritual leader Asaram Bapu who has been accused of rape, the DUJ urged the central and state governments to take stern action against the culprits.

It demanded a risk insurance cover for all journalists.

The DUJ called for immediate steps to ensure a national law codified by an act of parliament to protect working journalists.

"We congratulate the media for its successful campaign to ensure the arrest of Asaram Bapu," it said.

The DUJ said it was alarmed at the reported violent attack on an IBN7 reporter and cameraperson by Asaram Bapu's followers.
