The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections are set to be held on Friday. The votes will be counted on Saturday and the results declared on the same day.
The elections will be held for the post of President, Vice President, Secretary and Joint Secretary and will be conducted in two shifts -- for morning classes from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and for evening classes from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) that is affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), swept last year's elections, sweeping all the four posts by huge margins.Last year, ABVP defeated Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) that is affiliated to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), National Students' Union of India (NSUI) that is affiliated to Congress and All India Students' Association (AISA) that is affiliated to the Communist Party of India.
The ABVP presidential candidate this year is Amit Tanwar.
The NSUI has fielded first-year LLB student Nikhil Yadav as its presidential candidate. The AI'A's presidential candidate is Kawalpreet Kaur, who is also a law student.
The CYSS will not contest this year. It was unable to win any seat in 2015, when it first contested the DUSU elections.
