A power failure delayed the start of Delhi Dynamos' Indian Super League (ISL) clash with NorthEast United at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.
The match, like all ISL matches of the second edition of the lucrative football competition, was scheduled to kick-off at 7pm, local time. It is Dynamos' second home match of the tournament. They had won the first match against Chennaiyin FC 1-0 on October 8.
Both teams were forced to undergo their pre-match warm-ups under insufficient light. The situation did not improve as match time approached and the 60,000 capacity stadium was dimly lit at kick-off time.
It is believed that the power supply of the stadium malfunctioned as additional electricity was provided to a religious gathering that took place simultaneously during the match adjacent to the ground within the stadium's premises.
It is also reported additional back-up generators were not kept ready in case of an emergency.
But there was no official confirmation from the Dynamos authorities why the power supply was inadequate and when the match will start. Unverified reports, however, suggested the match has been delayed by 20 minutes.
