The Election Commission Thursday admonished Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for his "derogatory" comments against BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
The commission rejected the explanation offered by Siddaramaiah, who had called Modi a "mass murderer", on the language he used against Modi and asked him to be "extremely careful" in future.
The poll panel observed that the statement prima facie violated the provisions of model code of conduct which says that no party or candidate shall indulge in any activity which may aggravate existing differences or cause tension between different castes, communities or religions.
"The commission has decided to admonish you for the derogatory words used by you against Narendra Modi and has further advised you to be extremely careful in future," the poll panel statement said.
