The Election Commission on Monday ordered transfer of a senior Jharkhand Police officer, accused of misuse of official position and interfering in elections, and asked him to report to the state's Resident Commissioner in the national capital.
The poll panel said that Anurag Gupta was holding the post of ADG, Special Branch, in the state "which is a sensitive assignment for the purposes of conduct of elections".
"Therefore, after taking a considered view in the matter, the Commission has ordered that Anurag Gupta, IPS shall be divested of from the present assignment forthwith... He shall report to the Resident Commissioner, Jharkhand at Delhi by 1 pm on April 2, 2019," the Election Commission said in a letter to the Jharkhand Chief Electoral Officer.
Last year in March, cases were registered against Gupta in matters relating to "interference in elections, misuse of official position and breach of conduct/service rules."
