President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said education does not mean imparting information but is about values to be imbibed by the students.

Speaking at the 159th Founder's Day Celebrations of Lawrence School at Ootacamund in Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, Mukherjee said education does not merely imply imparting information.

Rather, values imparted by schools have to be absorbed in the personalities of students so that they become worthy citizens of our great nation, he said.

Mukherjee said the nation does not need informed robots without soul but human beings who are sensitive to the needs of the society.

He said the beaming bright student faces inspire confidence in him that the future of India is in safe hands of those who can face all odds and challenges.

Mukherjee said Lawrence School is a premier residential public school in the country.

Established in 1858, it was set to impart vocational education to the orphans and children of European soldiers in India. Over the years, the school has developed its own unique character.

Mukherjee wished the management, staff and students of the school all success in their future endeavours.
