Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramadan, will be celebrated in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Monday as the moon of 'Shawwal' was sighted on Sunday.
The moon sighting committee comprising eminent religious scholars in Hyderabad announced that the moon of the month of 'Shawwal' was sighted and hence Eid will be celebrated on Monday.
The sighting of the moon was announced through blaring of sirens from mosques across Hyderabad and in other towns of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Muslims were seen greeting each other.
Following the announcement, people hit the street for last minute shopping of groceries, new clothes, footwear and other items for celebrating Eid.
People were seen buying milk, vermicelli and dry fruits for "sheer khorma", a sweet dish made in almost every house.
Hectic activity was seen in markets around historic Charminar and other Muslim-majority areas in Hyderabad.
