At least eight people died and four others were injured on Wednesday in a fire in an apartment building in a northern suburb of Paris, local media reported.

The fire broke out around 5 a.m. (local time) in the French capital and left at least eight people, including two children, dead, Xinhua quoted fire brigade commander Gabriel Plus as saying.

At least 100 firefighters were rushed to combat the blaze, whose cause could not be determined immediately.

Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve, who visited the site, said an investigation was underway and it was too early to say anything about what caused the fire.
