Eight Indian female wrestlers for Jr Worlds

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Friday announced an eight-member women's team for the Junior World Championships to be held in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, from August 10 to 15.

The team was selected on the basis of their performance in the trials conducted at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) Centre in Lucknow.

"The female wrestlers made us proud last month by winning four medals in the Junior Asian Championships held in Myanmar and looking at their recent form during the training sessions in the month long camp, I am confident that the team picked has the potential to perform well in the Junior World Championships," WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said.

 

"In the last Junior World Championships in 2014 held in Zagreb our female wrestlers won two medals -- a silver and a bronze. But this time we aim to improve our tally and our wrestlers are ready for the challenge."

The Indian contingent: Sonu (44 kg), Neetu (48 kg), Pinky (51 kg), Manju Kumari(55 kg), Sarita (59 kg), Manisha(63 kg), Divya Kakran (67 kg), Pooja (72 kg).

Support staff: Kuldeep Singh (coach), Devi Prasad (coach), Namita Kumari (coach), Balbir Singh (referee) and Manya Sharma (masseur).
