With over 700 CCTV cameras, eight mobile assistance squads, adequate women officers and plain clothed men keeping round the clock vigil, the city police have made elaborate security arrangements for its biggest socio-cultural carnival - the Durga Puja.
"We have made special security arrangements for the Durga Puja starting from Mahalaya (Friday). We have made specials arrangements for areas which receive maximum footfall. Besides deploying plain clothed officers, we will ensure that there is 24-hour police presence," said Commissioner of Police S.K Purkayastha.
Purkayastha Saturday held a meeting with officers of all the police stations of the city to chalk out security arrangements for the four-day religious extravaganza beginning Oct 10.
Police have already installed over 700 CCTV cameras at strategic locations. For the assistance of female revelers, sufficient women officers will also be deployed in and around the pandals.
Toll-free helplines have also been installed for registering complaints with police.
