The kin of nine people who were electrocuted while travelling in a bus in Mizoram have been paid an additional compensation of Rs.1 lakh each, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) said Monday.

The incident occurred March 25, 2011, when the bus travelling between New Serkawr and New Latawh in Saiha district of Mizoram came in contact with a live electric wire hanging around 3.35 metres above the ground.

"The NHRC ensured that the Mizoram government pays an additional amount of Rs.1 lakh each to the next of kin of those nine people. The state government has submitted a proof of payment to the commission," a statement said.

The state had earlier paid Rs.10,000 each to the victims' families, and Rs.1 lakh each as immediate relief.
