Actress Elizabeth Pena, who recently completed shooting for TV series "Matador", has died. She was 55.
Her nephew Mario-Francisco Robles shared the news that Pena passed away Tuesday (Oct 14) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after a brief illness, reports hollywoodreporter.com.
Robles broke the news on the website Latino Review, where he serves as a writer.
The actress played the title character's mother Maritza in the first season of the El Rey Network's "Matador".
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague, Elizabeth Pena. She was a role model, a truly extraordinary performer and an inspiration in every sense of the word. Our thoughts are with Elizabeth's family and friends during this difficult time. She will be deeply missed," read a statement by the network.
Pena also featured in popular TV series "Modern Family" in the role of actress Sofia Vergara's mother.
