England striker Jamie Vardy is now a serious injury doubt as the side turns their attention to preparing Saturday's World Cup quarterfinal clash against Sweden in Samara.
Vardy played as a second half substitute for Raheem Sterling in the game, but despite being one of the five players expected to take the fifth penalty in Tuesday's decisive shootout, the final penalty was taken by Eric Dier, reports Xinhua news agency.
It has now been confirmed that Vardy suffered a groin injury in extra time and needed an injection, which means he must be a serious doubt for Saturday's game.
Others who could be struggling for full fitness are midfielder Dele Alli, who was once again holding his troublesome left thigh as he left the pitch, while full back Ashley Young had to be replaced in the closing minutes of the match after from suffering cramps.
