Fancy getting to enjoy French playwright Moliere's "The Impostures of Scapin (Les Fourberies de Scapin)" and Vijay Tendulkar's "Pahije Jatiche" in Sindhi? The upcoming Sindhi Drama Festival starting Dec 5 will give you an opportunity to do just that.

In an attempt to promote Sindhi theatre, the Delhi government's art, culture and languages department, along with the Sindhi Academy, is organising the two-day festival.

The festival will stage "Vichoo", (The Impostures of Scapin)and "Muhinji Zaat" (Pahije Jatiche).

"Vichoo", the story of Vadhumal a servant who is also a diplomatic genius, is directed by Manohar Khushalni and translated by Mohini Hingorani.

"The Impostures of Scapin was enacted in 1671 for the first time at the Palais Royal, Paris where Moliere enacted the part of Scapin. Moliere is one of the most popular playwrights in India because the cultural values he showed find resonance in India as well," said Khushalani.

"Muhinji Zaat", a comedy hitting out at casteism, is directed by Prakash Bhatia.

"Our production is an attempt to bring before our Sindhi audience a kind of comedy which is seldom tried in Delhi's Sindhi theatre circle. The majority of cast in this play are first timers and I appreciate their sincerity, dedication and hard work," said Bhatia.

"Vichoo" and "Muhinji Zaat" will be staged on Dec 5 and 6 respectively at the Shriram Centre for Art and Culture at 6.30 p.m.
