Singer Enrique Iglesias is facing two misdemeanor charges of obstruction and driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in Miami-Dade County.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a law enforcement agency, the 40-year-old was arrested when his white Cadillac Escalade was pulled over for driving in a closed express lane of the higway Interstate 95 on May 6, reports aceshowbiz.com.
A trooper who saw his car approached the vehicle with lights and sirens on and then pulled the SUV over onto a paved shoulder on the road, read a police report.
As the trooper pulled the vehicle over, the singer "jumped from inside the driver's seat onto the rear passenger's seat," while his passenger, identified as Abel Tabuyo, "jumped from the front passenger's seat onto the driver's seat."
The police report stated that although Iglesias "immediately climbed into the right front passenger's seat," he and his friend were placed in handcuffs and taken into custody.
The "Hero" hitmaker invoked his Miranda rights to remain silent and was charged with obstruction without violence. He was also charged with driving with a suspended license after police checked his birth date and social security number through the system.
Iglesias's lawyer has not commented on the issue yet.
