Strong global cues and value buying lifted the key Indian equity markets higher on Monday.

The equity markets traded high during the mid-afternoon session, as buying lifted the health care, IT, auto and banking stocks.

The wider 51-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was up by 133.85 points or 1.61 per cent, at 8,457.05 points.

The barometer 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the BSE, which opened at 27,358.23 points, traded at 27,583.04 points (at 1.58 p.m.) -- up 456.14 points or 1.68 per cent from the previous close at 27,126.90 points.

The Sensex has so far touched a high of 27,622.73 points and a low of 27,358.23 points.

On Friday, the benchmark indices closed in the red on heavy selling pressure induced by profit booking.
