The world's leading ophthalmic lens maker Essilor India has achieved over 20 percent growth in sales in the last fiscal and expects to maintain the same growth rate in the current fiscal, an official said on Thursday.
"About 130-140 million ophthalmic lenses are sold annually in India. Sixty-five percent of the market is based on plastic lenses while the rest is glass lenses. In India, we have achieved over 20 percent growth in sales in 2015-16 and expect to maintain the same rate in the current fiscal," said Essilor India's group chief operating officer Ramachandran P.
The French ophthalmic lens maker manufactures plastic lenses only.
"India is among the fastest growing countries in the world along with China, Turkey and Brazil," he said.
The company's CEO Shivkumar J. said: "We have more than 80 prescription laboratories in India. We have plans to enter new town and cities, and we will expand the network to over 90 by the end of the current fiscal."
Laboratories make customised lenses according to the specification of people.

In India, 52 percent of the population require eye correction, Shivkumar said. The company has 22 mass manufacturing facilities across the globe.
