The European Union (EU) has expressed deep concern here over the security and humanitarian situation in Kobane and rest of the Syrian Kurdish self-proclaimed autonomous region after three weeks of siege and fierce fighting against Islamic State militant organisation.

The EU strongly condemned ISIL and its offensive in Kobane, a Syrian city that borders Turkey, and remained committed to playing its role to the full in the fight against ISIL and in solidarity with all people suffering from IS actions, Xinhua quoted the European External Action Service as saying in a statement.

"The EU, Turkey and all other regional and international partners need to work together more, to isolate and contain the threat of ISIL. The EU continues to fully support the diplomatic efforts of the UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, towards a political solution to the Syrian crisis," it added.

It also said the people of Kobane have demonstrated to the international community their resolve to use all means to protect their fundamental rights and values and to resist oppression.
