The European Union (EU) and Ukraine have inked a new agreement worth 10 million euros ($12.94 millon) to support civil society in Ukraine, according to a statement issued Monday.

The deal, signed Saturday by EU Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule and Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk in Kiev, is "designed to enhance the role of civil society in promoting and monitoring democratic reforms and inclusive social and economic development in Ukraine", Xinhua reported.

The new deal will provide direct funding to the civil society organisations to build up their capacity to analyse reforms directly linked to the state-building contract signed in May.

The aim of the contract is to help Ukraine in the process of transformation and related reforms.

The latest deal will be implemented through calls for proposals for civil society organisations. Training and advice will also be provided to support the establishment of a structured dialogue between authorities and the civil society.
