Brussels, June 7 (IANS/MAP) The European Union (EU) announced on Wednesday a 382 million euro ($430,571,300) aid for the consolidation of peace, economic and social development in the Central African Republic (CAR).
Three priority sectors will benefit from the support over the period 2014-2020. These include economic and social governance, security sector reform and democratic governance along with rural resilience and job creation.
The aid was part of the implementation of the commitments made by the EU at the Brussels Conference for Central Africa in November 2016.
Combined with contributions from other partners, a total commitment of 2.6 billion euros was made to support the national plan for the rehabilitation and consolidation of peace in the CAR.
The objective was to support the Central African authorities in their reforms in terms of returning to peace, maintaining security and supporting reconciliation.
