External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj Monday conveyed her resolve to set up passport seva kendras in all districts across India.
"We will set up passport seva kendras in every district. There is only one passport seva kendra for every state which is why people living in other districts face problems in getting passports," Sushma Swaraj told the media here.
By Oct 31, passport seva kendras will be set up in 33 districts. All the northeastern states will have passport seva kendras soon, she added.
Sushma Swaraj said her ministry has successfully resolved the shortage of passport booklets.
"When I took over as the external affairs minister, there was a shortage of 5.37 lakh booklets. Now there is zero shortage," she said.
The minister said reserves for booklets have been prepared.
"In one year, around one crore passports are issued. So we have ordered two crore booklets in order to have strategic reserves," she said.
