A former legal officer of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was sent to jail in a bribery case, a CBI official said here Thursday, adding a fine of Rs.2 lakh was also slapped.
D.K. Srivastava, then deputy legal advisor (DLA)deputed at Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB)of CBI branch, was sent to three years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs.2 lakh under different Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections, including prevention of corruption act by a special CBI court.
The probing agency had registered a case against Srivastava May 11, 2006 for demanding a bribe of Rs.4 lakh from the complainant for showing favour in an enquiry registered against him at CBI's ACB branch in the capital.
"Srivastava was arrested red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs.4 lakh from the complainant," said a CBI officer, adding that the chargesheet was filed July 11, 2006.
