Former Hong Kong Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen appeared in the court on Tuesday for the start of his trial on corruption charges.

Tsang was seen emerging from a minivan outside the High Court, accompanied by his wife Selina around 8.15 a.m., more than an hour before his trial was scheduled to start, Efe news reported.

The former leader pleaded not guilty to the charge of bribery, after previously pleading the same to two counts of misconduct related to financial dealings between 2010 and 2012.

His trial is due to last 20 days.

There were no reports of protesters or supporters showing up at the court.

Tsang was in power from 2005 to 2012.
