The driving skills of a former taxi driver got the better of the lessons of the Education Minister in Punjab's Akali Dal-BJP government as the Punjab assembly election results came out on Saturday.

Former taxi driver and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Amarjit Singh Sandoa trounced Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema in the Rupnagar assembly seat, winning the seat with a margin of 23,707 votes over his nearest rival, Brinder Singh Dhillon of the Congress.

Cheema, who was a prominent minister in the outgoing Parkash Singh Badal government, finshed a poor third.

Amarjit, who used to be a taxi driver in Delhi earlier, now runs a small transport company in the national capital.
