Platters (thalis) of quintessential Bengali delights will wow foodies as the first restaurant in the city serving exclusive thali meals has opened it's doors here.
Gastronomes at '6 Ballygunge Place Thalis' can have a bit of everything from starters to desserts in a single plate thanks to the thali system - the theme of the restaurant.
"Bengali food can be enjoyed in thali form. So this thali form is introduced for them. The main thali will be vegetarian and add ons will be available along with it. The thali will be totally themed on Bengali food items," the restaurant's chef Sushanta Sengupta told IANS.
The lip-smacking ensemble includes small bowls of customary Bengali vegetarian fare like dal (lentil soup), spinach (seasonal), shukto (bitter gourd stew with other vegetables) and chutney.
The ubiquitous steamed rice, luchis (deep-fried wheat flatbread) and potato fries form the core of the sweet and savoury array of dishes while non-vegetarian mainstays like Chingrir Malai Curry (prawn and coconut curry), roasted Katla maach (roasted Katla fish) and Kosha mangsho (mutton curry) are the tempting add-ons.
Sweet sensations include the famous Mishti Doi (sweet curd) while mocktails like Aam Porar Sharbat (green mango juice) and Gondhoraj Ghol (sweet-lime refresher) are served as traditional thirst-quenchers.
Located in southern part of the city at Ballygunge, the the 50-seater outlet is scheduled to get five branches in the future.
