Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has again requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the issue of Digital Addressable System (DAS) licence to TACTV.
In a letter to Modi Friday, the text of which was released to the media Saturday, Jayalalithaa requested Modi to ensure DAS licence is given to Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) at the earliest.
"This would enable the government of Tamil Nadu to adhere to its commitment to provide inexpensive and quality Cable TV services to the people of the state, particularly the poor and the middle class," she said.
Jayalalithaa reminded Modi that this was one of the issues she had mentioned in her memorandum submitted to him June 3.
"This is an issue on which I am keenly expecting an early decision from your government in view of the clear legal position and the strong merits of the case," she said.
Jayalalithaa said she strongly suspects "that the non-issuance of the DAS license to TACTV by the previous UPA government was only to facilitate particular private business interests, as other licences were issued at the same time".
