One person was killed and three others were injured in an explosion at a construction site in the 10th arrondissement of Paris Friday.

The blast occurred around 3.45 p.m. (1.45 p.m. GMT) in the basement of a three-storey building on the Rue d'Enghien in central Paris, Xinhua reported citing local media.

The ground floor of the building broke down in the explosion as four workers were trying to repair old fuel tanks.

While the three injured were evacuated, two other workers were spotted alive in the rubble and another was missing late in the afternoon.

A medical post was installed on the site and rescuers were trying to release the two trapped under the rubble and searching for the missing worker.

French Interior Minister Manuel Valls arrived at the scene shortly after the accident.
